Spring Portfolio WIP Pass

This is what I have so far, I know it's not much but I don't have good figure drawings to include just yet. I am also in the process of working on some Head Studies and Drapery Studies as well! I hope to try to get sketchbook pages in as well however that is unlikely cause I feel they are not as strong as I would like them to be! Please critique be honest, I would love to hear what everyone thinks!

  1. Sup Danny! This is Melanie. I don't know why, but my name is all numbers. I saw your post on facebook and wanted to comment on your trees and pine cone. They're really cool!

There are some trees that seem like the sketchbook page got smudgey. If you go to the "levels" menu in photoshop, you can easily correct it by playing with the sliders. Good luck with your portfolio!

    1. Thanks 1137250...Melanie x] Yeah I'll definitely play around with it more, I was trying to keep the "pencil-yness" of those certain ones but they just look messy and they will be cleaned up ASAP!

  2. Hey danny!
    great job.

-I would desaturate the Blue bar a little more so its not the center of attention on each page.
-Change the font and/or edit the type. Make sure the spacing between the letters are equal
-make the type gray instead of black. You don't want to draw too much attention to the headings, they're only there for information. Your work should be the one that stands out.
-you really don't need that many tree drawings, only pick your very favorites.

and i know this is still a WIP but here's some more advice:
Make sure you have your best work first. It doesnt have to be in order from figure drawings, classwork, personal work. Whatever you think is the strongest piece! I started with my Still life painting.

    Good luck!

  3. The border edges on your paintings seem a bit too bold. Last semester I had border edges that were pretty thin and I think someone in peer review last year told me to lose them entirely. Your paintings will stand well on their own without those borders anyways, so I would just lose the border lines if I were you.

That's all I can say for now that hasn't already been said. What you have going is looking pretty solid so far. Once you've got the rest of your pieces, make sure that layout is clean and professional looking, and you'll be good to go.

  4. Looking good! Someone told me we can lose the titles all together, so you can consider that!

  5. Great paintings! As cool as it is to see improvement in your trees via week #s, I would select the best of them to show. Make sure you emphasize one tree on that page as well so that it doesn't guide the eye somewhere!
