Screen Cap #1 Skyfall

Screen Cap provided by this site

So this is my first Screen cap Photoshop drawing. I have never done this before and I am really doing this to improve my digital drawing skills, composition skills, and managing my skills. I will be doing this over the summer and will post every single one to show my progress! It will improve and there is already a lot I learned from this painting alone! Check out my other friends doing this Danielle Case and my inspiration/mentor for starting this Jonathan Chu! This will be a fun summer and this was really fun to do! Any criticism I will gladly take and again I'm not the best with photoshop and this was my first time doing it. I kinda just jumped into without really knowing what to do hahaha! Till next time!!

  2. Good luck on your journey. I am certainly no digital painting guru by any means, but if I had to offer some advice: Keep your brush opacity at 100%, and use a 100% hard brush. It might be hard and feel clunky or whatever, but get used to it. Look at what Marcos Mateu-Mestre is able to do with nice hard brushes, and maybe a gradient for the sky in the background.

Maybe you can totally learn from his book as well - try a few of these studies in just black and white . Maybe try using just 3 values.

    And squint!

    Good work Danny :D

  3. Yup, using hard brushes is extremely helpful for edge quality. To add more to what hunter said: I suggest finishing the background first or have it on a separate layer. It will help create better depth but also so that you don't have to worry about painting the background up to the edge of an object.

Personally, I would draw/paint everything in one layer for speed paintings, but layering approach solves a lot of annoying problems. Pretty much the same process as you set up your still life.

Hopefully we can demo it better in hangout.

Keep up the good work, man. You'll pick up digital painting in no time.
